Special Greyhounds
In addition to the hundreds of "normal" greyhound adoptions that the we support, there come a few that need special care. Following are a few that the Greyhound Alliance is giving special attention.

Foxy Mama - Foxy is a three-legged brood we have taken in. We funded surgery to improve her stability after a previous leg amputation and she is now living in her forever home, happy and running around with her forevever pack.

Susan - Susan had lost her right eye at some point before arriving at the track, and was immediately taken into the pet kennel.  The eye itself had atrophied. The Alliance took Susan in, and had the eye surgically removed and the lid closed. Susan has now fully recovered and can be seen at area Meet-n-Greets with her forever family, where her adorable face and happy personality win her many fans and friends.

The Greyhound is as ancient as the desert from which he sprung, and for thousands of years they were the dogs of choice by kings, queens, pharaohs, sheiks, and people of distinction.  Today, greyhounds are gentle, loving dogs that thrive on human companionship. After their racing career, retired greyhounds, also known as 40 mph couch potatoes, make wonderful pets.

Greyhounds love people and tend to be quite sociable. They have been handled and socialized from their early training throughout their careers. Generally, Greyhounds are quizzical, sometimes shy, very sensitive, and surprisingly gentle. They possess superior intelligence and can exhibit a quiet but surprising independence. Greyhounds transition readily to life in a home, where they demonstrate the pronounced greyhound trait of bonding closely with their people!

The Greyhound Alliance is an Illinois and 501c3 not for profit organization.
