Tony Stewart Gives the Nod to
The Greyhound Alliance!
September 22, 2011 – Two-time NASCAR
Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart evokes several
images --
owner of Tony Stewart Racing, co-owner of Stewart-Haas
Racing, a highly competitive driver, and a tireless
advocate of auto racing in its many forms.
And, increasingly, Tony is also well-known as a
dedicated philanthropist.
Like his racing style, Tony Stewart pushes the
limits to help others through his Foundation.
The Tony Stewart Foundation
just announced the winners for its “Tony’s Grant
Accelerator” competition.
The Greyhound Alliance has been selected as 1
of 40 charities from throughout the United States to
be known as an Accelerator Charity and receive a
monetary grant.
More than 300 nominations were reviewed by the
foundation and 72 organizations were invited to submit
the full grant application.
“We created this competition
to uncover terrific charities that are serving
children and animals in innovative ways,” remarked
Stewart. “The result is a collection of charities – large and
small – with a common denominator of having a strong
volunteer network and a dedicated staff to deliver
programs.”
The $5000 grant from the Tony Stewart Foundation will
be used to help transport retired racing greyhounds
from Florida and Alabama tracks to adoption groups in
the Midwest. "We are honored to have been chosen
as one of the 40 charities to receive this grant which
will help many greyhounds find loving homes after
finishing their racing careers" said Rich Ingersoll,
President of the Greyhound Alliance.
You can learn more about the Greyhound Alliance and
our programs by checking out more of the Greyhound Alliance's

Since 2004, the Tony Stewart Foundation has
awarded more than $5 million in grants to
organizations serving children, animals and
drivers. Complete information about the foundation

100 Panhandle Greyhounds Move to Adoption in October
News Release:
October 24, 2011
Contact:
Linda Cliffel (813) 468-8771

Sunburst Project
Over one hundred Sunburst Project greyhounds moved or are
moving to adoption groups around the country in the month of
October.
Twenty
retired greyhounds left on
“The Westward Ho Haul” from Ebro, Florida, to Colorado on October 18th,
and thirty greyhound passengers will be aboard
“The East Coast Haul”
going to Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and
Canada on October 22nd.
These hauls are in addition to the record breaking
Northern Consortium haul of 52 greyhounds transported by The
Sunburst Project from Ebro to Michigan and Wisconsin on
October 8th.
Seasonal track closings in the Florida Panhandle have
dramatically increased the number of retired racers needing
homes.
In
addition, the NGA recently requested The Sunburst Project’s
assistance to help with a kennel closing at the Mobile, AL
track, with the need to move 65 greyhounds. The first of the
Mobile pets moved to The Sunburst Adoption Kennel and traveled
on the Western haul.
“We are very proud that The Sunburst Project has been able to
expand its mission in Florida to include Alabama, and help
when and where it is needed, such as this Mobile kennel
closing” said Linda Cliffel of The Northern Consortium and
Co-Director of The Sunburst Project.
The Sunburst Project, sponsored and supported by The Greyhound
Alliance, is committed to moving hundreds of retired racing
greyhounds from Panhandle tracks to adoption groups throughout
the country and Canada. The Project and Adoption Kennel at
Ebro Greyhound Park receive funding
from donations and grants to The Greyhound Alliance, and
volunteers work to insure the care, transportation and
adoption of these retired greyhounds.
“There’s no place like home!” says Cliffel. “We are organizing
our “Home for the Holidays Haul”
now, so if your adoption organization
can accept greyhounds before the end of the year, please let
us know!” (lindacliffl@att.net)
If you wish to help, donations to
The Sunburst Project can be made through The Greyhound
Alliance

Greyhound Alliance Review:
During the last year the Greyhound Alliance has been active in a wide variety of greyhound rescue and adoption activities.
Special Needs Greyhounds : The Alliance sponsored and paid more than $6,000 to aid greyhounds with special needs and provide medical care and rehabilitation services for injured greyhounds.
Transport
: Dairyland Greyhound Park closed in December, 2009, and 252 of its racers moved to tracks in Florida, Alabama, and Arizona. Since then, The Greyhound Alliance has sponsored and paid for transport for more than100 of those former Dairyland racers to return "home" from those tracks to adoption groups in the Midwest. The Alliance also sponsored and paid transport for additional dogs on a total of 12 hauls from Alabama and Florida tracks to adoption in groups in Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin. in addition, Alliance volunteers provided transport for greyhounds from local adoption organizations, moving dogs to/from veterinary appointments, kennels, and adoption events.
Volunteers
:
The Alliance holds several monthly Meet'n'Greet events to introduce greyhounds and educate the public about the breed.
Education :
The Greyhound Alliance sponsored and organized a public seminar by Guillermo Couto, DVM, dipl. ACVIM,
Greyhound Health and Wellness Program, The Ohio State University,
with all proceeds donated to Dr. Couto's Program.

The Greyhound Alliance's "Greys on Tapas" Doggie Party and Fundraiser
was a HUGE
success!!!!

Over 50 fun-loving folks (and a good number of
doggies!) came out and enjoyed a wonderful evening of
great food, great entertainment and lots of great
raffle and silent auction goodies.
Over $3,000 was raised for
the Greyhound Alliance!!!
The money will go a LONG
way in supporing The Sunburst Project to help as many
Florida greyhounds find their forever home.
THANK YOU to everyone that came out to support the
Alliance -- and a special thanks to Toni Willey,
Bruce Jones, entertainers Nelson and Dallas Santiago, and to Emilio, his wife Ann
