OHS Greyhound Health and Wellness Program
The GHWP is primarily an outreach and teaching effort that incorporates basic elements of shelter medicine. The program consists of:

  • Free consultation for Greyhound owners and veterinarians
  • A website with current Greyhound health information
  • A list-serv for Veterinarians for Retired Racers, and an annual scientific conference on this area
  • Educational programs for Greyhound owners and veterinarians
  • Free chemotherapy for retired racers with cancer
  • Financial assistance (through development funds and research grants) for Greyhound medical and surgical care at the OSU VTH

The GHWP provides a free consultation service for owners of retired racers and their veterinarians. Dr. Couto and his team spend 1-2 hours a day responding to e-mails and answering phone calls on problems in the breed.
