The news is good! Rita's left surgical eye is doing great. The inflammation is reduced and the pressure is perfect. She will wean off the prednisone. The pressure in her right eye is perfect now, too! The new medicine obviously helps; everyone is so pleased. She will not, however, be scheduled for the second cataract surgery until the doctors are sure this is a stable, reliable pressure, reducing the risk of glaucoma. We all need to understand how complex the surgery is, and we want to optimize every chance she has for a successful outcome. Therefore, Rita will have a follow up in 3 weeks. Foster mom Nelly was pretty happy today! Rita was happy to be leaving the vet. She jumped in the driver's seat in her eagerness to get on the road!
Tomorrow is a big day for Rita - check up in the am. She is doing well and we're hoping the good news continues - that she will be able to have her right eye done as well. Prayers and powerful white light please!
Rita is so much happier without her cone! She stood to eat her entire dinner, then took a little stroll around the house- for the first time since surgery. Nelly says she is much happier. Such a big step for our little girl!
Rita’s appointment- we have some mixed news. There is still some minor inflammation, which is not unusual at this point. The good news is that her eye is healing well, and the pressure is good. Best of all for Rita- no more cone! Nelly says she is getting around and going to the door to let her know she wants to go out. We are sure Rita will do more and more without the cone.
The right eye, however, still has high pressure, higher than they would like, so they added another medication to try to bring that down. The second surgery hinges on getting that resolved. Prayers and paws crossed that the new medication helps to reduce the pressure. Our little girl has a way to go. The eye doctor said she is the best little patient.

Home from her appointment and the news is good! Inflammation is going down, will take more time, pressure in the eye is in the OK range! Another week of the dreaded cone, of course she will continue on her medications and eye drops, but healing well. Pressure in her right eye was high, but that fluctuates, and will probably continue. Best part of the day - foster mom Nelly said she was so happy to see Rita getting up to look out the window - now that's exciting!!
As you all know, Rita has had a rough start. She came to the Sunburst Kennel unable to see.
